21:2
No reminder comes to them anew from their Lord except that they listen to it while they are at play
21:3
With their hearts distracted. And those who do wrong conceal their private conversation, [saying], "Is this [prophet anything] but a human being like you? So would you approach magic while you are aware [of it]?"
21:4
He said, "My Lord knows whatever is said throughout the heaven and earth, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing."
21:5
But they say, "[The revelation is only] a mixture of false dreams; rather, he has invented it; rather, he is a poet. So let him bring us a sign just as the previous [messengers] were sent [with miracles]."
21:6
Not a [single] city which We destroyed believed before them, so will they believe?
21:7
And We did not send [anyone] before you except men to whom We revealed [the message], so ask the people about the reminder if you do not know.
21:8
And We did not make the prophets forms not eating food, nor were they immortal.
21:9
Then We fulfilled the promise for them, and We saved them and whom We willed and destroyed the transgressors. *Psalms 37:38 - 39
21:10
We have certainly sent a Book down to you in which your reminder is therein. Then will you not reason?
21:11
And how many cities have We shattered which were unjust and produced another people after it?
21:12
And when they perceived Our punishment, at once they fled from it.
21:13
[Some angels said], "Do not flee but return to where you were given luxury and to your homes - perhaps you will be questioned."
21:14
They said, "O woe to us! Indeed, we were wrongdoers."
21:15
And that declaration of theirs did not cease until We made them [as] a harvest [mowed down], extinguished [like a fire].
21:16
And We did not create the heaven and earth and that between them in play.
21:17
Had We intended to take [it as] amusement, We could have taken it from [what is] with Us - if We were [indeed] to do so.
21:18
Rather, We dash the truth upon falsehood, and it destroys it, and thereupon it departs. And there is destruction for you from that which you describe.
21:19
Whoever is in the heavens and the earth [belongs] to Him. And those near Him are not [prevented by] arrogance from serving Him, nor do they tire.
21:20
They exalt [Him] night and day [and] do not slacken. *Book of Enoch 14:23, *Revelation 4:8
21:21
Or have they taken gods for themselves from the earth who resurrect [the dead]?
21:22
Had there been gods within both [the heavens and the earth] besides God, they both would have been ruined. God is exalted above what they describe, [He is] Lord of the Throne.
21:23
He is not questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned.
21:24
Or have they taken gods besides Him? Say, "Produce your proof. This [Qur'an] is a reminder for those with me and a reminder for those before me." But most of them do not know the truth, so they are turning away.
21:25
And We did not send any messenger before you except that We revealed to him that, "There is no god except Me, so serve Me."
21:26
And they say, "The Most Gracious has taken a son." He is Exalted! Rather, they are [only] honored servants. *All, *Abraham, *Ahijah, *Caleb, *the Children of Israel, *Daniel, *David, *Eliakim, *Elijah, *Enoch, *Esau, *Ezra, *Hezekiah, *Isaac, *Isaiah, *Israel, *Jacob, *Jeremiah, *Jesus, *Job, *Jonah of Amittai, *Joshua, *Lot, *Moses, *Paul, *Samson, *Samuel, *Solomon, *Zerubbabel, *the Prophets
21:27
They cannot precede Him in word, and they act by His command. *Exodus 7:2, *Jeremiah 1:7, *Jeremiah 1:17, *Jeremiah 26:2, *John 12:49 - 50
21:28
He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they cannot intercede except on behalf of one whom He approves. And they are apprehensive from fear of Him.
21:29
And whoever of them should say, "Indeed, I am a god besides Him" - We would recompense that one with Gehenna. Thus, We recompense the wrongdoers.
21:30
Have those who disbelieved not seen that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made every living thing from water? *2 Ezra 6:48 Then will they not believe?
21:31
And We placed firmly set [mountains] within the earth, unless it should shift with them, and We made [mountain] passes therein [as] roads so that they might be guided.
21:32
And We made the heaven a protected ceiling, but they are turning away from its signs.
21:33
And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all are swimming in an orbit. *Book of Enoch 82:8
21:34
And We did not grant immortality to any human being before you; so if you die - would they live forever?
21:35
Every soul will taste death. And We test you with evil and with good as a trial; and you will be returned to Us.
21:36
And when those who disbelieve see you, they do not take you in [anything] except ridicule, [saying], "Is this the one who mentions your gods?" And they are disbelievers at the reminder of the Most Gracious.
21:37
Man was created of haste. I will show you My signs, so do not impatiently urge Me.
21:38
And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?"
21:39
If those who disbelieved knew the time when they will not avert the Fire from their faces or their backs, and they will not be aided...
21:40
Rather, it will come to them suddenly and bewilder them, and they will not be able to repel it, nor will they be reprieved.
21:41
And messengers were already ridiculed before you, *2 Chronicles 36:16 but those who mocked them were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.
21:42
Say, "Who can protect you at night or by day from the Most Gracious?" But they are turning away from the remembrance of their Lord.
21:43
Or do they have gods to defend them other than Us? *Jeremiah 2:28 They are unable to help [even] themselves, nor can they be protected from Us. *Wisdom of Solomon 13:16, *Baruch 6:10, *Baruch 6:13, *Baruch 6:49, *Baruch 6:57
21:44
But We have provided good things for these [disbelievers] and their fathers until life was prolonged for them. Then do they not see that We come to the land, reducing it from its borders? So is it they who will overcome?
21:45
Say, "I only warn you by revelation." But the deaf do not hear the call when they are warned.
21:46
And if [as much as] a whiff of the punishment of your Lord should touch them, they would surely say, "O woe to us! Indeed, we have been wrongdoers."
21:47
And We will place the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be treated unjustly at all. And if there is [even] the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. And We are sufficient as accountant.
21:48
And We had already given Moses and Aaron the Criterion and a light and a reminder for those who fear [God]
21:49
Who fear their Lord unseen, while they are apprehensive of the Hour.
21:50
And this [Qur'an] is a blessed message which We have sent down. Then are you unacquainted with it?
21:51
And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were well-Knowing of him
21:52
When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues which you are devoted to?" ~*Joshua 24:2
21:53
They said, "We found our fathers servants of them."
21:54
He said, "You were certainly in clear error, you and your fathers." *Book of Jubilees 12:1 - 2
21:55
They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you among those who jest?"
21:56
He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I am among the witnesses to that.
21:57
And by God, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away."
21:58
So he made them into fragments, ~*Book of Jasher 11:33, ~*Book of Jubilees 12:12 except a large one among them, ~*Book of Jasher 11:34, *Gospel of Barnabas 28:1 so that they might return to it [and question].
21:59
They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is among the wrongdoers."
21:60
They said, "We heard a youth mention them who is called Abraham." ~*Judges 6:28 - 29
21:61
They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people so that they may testify."
21:62
They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?"
21:63
He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, ~*Book of Jasher 11:40, *Book of Jasher 11:53, *Gospel of Barnabas 28:2 so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." ~*Judges 6:31
21:64
So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers."
21:65
Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!"
21:66
He said, "Then do you serve [something] instead of God which does not benefit you at all or harm you?
21:67
Uff to you and to what you serve instead of God. Then will you not use reason?"
21:68
They said, "Burn him and support your gods - *Book of Jasher 12:5 if you are to act." ~*Judges 6:30
21:69
God said, "O fire, be coolness and peace upon Abraham." ~*Book of Jasher 12:24, ~*Prayer of Azariah 1:26 - 27, *Gospel of Barnabas 28:3
21:70
And they intended harm for him, but We made them the greatest in loss.
21:71
And We delivered [Abraham] and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. *Genesis 12:4
21:72
And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, *Joshua 24:3 and We made all [of them] righteous.
21:73
And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired the doing of good deeds to them, and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of purifying [alms]; and they were servants of Us.
21:74
And We gave judgement and knowledge to Lot, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil - defiantly disobedient.
21:75
And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was among the righteous.
21:76
And Noah, when he called [to God] before, so We responded to him and saved him and his family from the great affliction.
21:77
And We saved him from the people who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a people of evil, so We drowned them, all together.
21:78
And David and Solomon, when they judged concerning the field - when the sheep of a people pastured in it, and We were witness to their judgement.
21:79
And We gave understanding of [the case] to Solomon, and We gave judgement and knowledge to each. And We subjected the mountains to exalt [Us] along with David and the birds. *Psalms 148:7 - 10 And We were doing [that].
21:80
And We taught him the fashioning of coats of armor to protect you from your battle. So will you then be grateful?
21:81
And [We subjected] the wind to Solomon, blowing forcefully by his command toward the land which We had blessed. And We are Knowing of all things.
21:82
And there were those who dove deep for [Solomon] among the devils and they did work other than that. *Testament of Solomon 11, *Testament of Solomon 30, *Testament of Solomon 42 And We were a Guardian of them.
21:83
And Job, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the most merciful of the merciful."
21:84
So We responded to him and removed what afflicted him of adversity. And We gave him his family [back] and the like thereof with them *Job 42:10 as mercy from Us and a reminder for the servants [of God].
21:85
And Ishmael and Idris [Enoch] and Dhul-Kifl; all were among the patient.
21:86
And We admitted them into Our mercy. Indeed, they were among the righteous.
21:87
And the man of the fish, when he went off in anger *Jonah 4:4 - 5 and thought that We would not decree [anything] upon him. And he called out within the darknesses, "There is no god except You; You are Exalted. Indeed, I have been among the wrongdoers."
21:88
So We responded to him and saved him from the distress. And thus, We save the believers.
21:89
And Zacharias, when he called to his Lord, "My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while You are the best of inheritors."
21:90
So We responded to him, and We gave John to him, and We amended his wife for him. Indeed, they used to hasten to good deeds and supplicate Us in hope and fear, and they were humble to Us.
21:91
And the one who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into her through Our [Holy] Spirit, *Matthew 1:18 and We made her and her son a sign for the worlds.
21:92
Indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so serve Me.
21:93
And [yet] they divided their affair amongst themselves, [but] all will return to Us.
21:94
So whoever does righteous deeds while he is a believer - there will be no denial for his effort, and indeed We are Recorders of it.
21:95
And there is prohibition upon a city which We have destroyed so that they will not return
21:96
Until, when [the barrier of] Gog and Magog has been opened and they descend from every elevation.
21:97
And [when] the true promise has approached; then suddenly the eyes of those who disbelieved will be staring [in horror, while they say], "O woe to us; we had been unmindful of this; rather, we were wrongdoers."
21:98
Indeed, you [disbelievers] and what you serve other than God are the firewood of Gehenna. You will be coming to [enter] it.
21:99
Had these [false gods] been [actual] gods, they would not have come to it, but all are eternal therein.
21:100
[There will be] heavy sighing for them therein, and they will not hear therein.
21:101
Indeed, those for whom the best [reward] has preceded from Us - they are removed far from it.
21:102
They will not hear its sound, while they are abiding eternally in that which their souls desire.
21:103
They will not be grieved by the greatest terror, and the angels will receive them, [saying], "This is your Day which you have been promised" -
21:104
The Day when We will fold the heaven like the folding of a scroll for the records. *Isaiah 34:4, *Hebrews 1:12, *Revelation 6:14 As We began the first creation, We will repeat it. [That is] a promise binding upon Us. Indeed, We will do it.
21:105
And We have already written in the Scripture [Psalms] after the [previous] reminder that the earth is inherited by My righteous servants. *Book of Enoch 5:7, *Psalms 37:11, *Psalms 37:29, *Matthew 5:5
21:106
Indeed, there is notification in this [Qur'an] for a people [who are] servants [of God].
21:107
And We have not sent you except as a mercy to the worlds.
21:108
Say, "It is only revealed to me that your God is one God; *Deuteronomy 6:4, *Mark 12:29, *Mark 12:32, *James 2:19, *Shepherd of Hermas 26:1 so will you be in submission [to Him]?"
21:109
But if they turn away, then say, "I have announced equally to [all of] you. And I do not know whether that which you are promised is near or far.
21:110
Indeed, He knows what is declared of speech, and He knows what you conceal.
21:111
And I do not know; perhaps it is a trial for you and enjoyment for a time."
