Sirach 2:11
For the Lord is full of compassion and mercy, longsuffering, and very pitiful, and forgives sins, and saves in time of affliction.

For the blessing of the father establishes the houses of children; but the curse of the mother roots out foundations.
Sirach 3:10
Do not glory in the dishonor of your father; for your father's dishonor is not glory to you.
Sirach 3:11
For the glory of a man is from the honor of his father; and a mother in dishonor is a reproach to the children.
Sirach 3:12
My son, help your father in his age, and do not grieve him as long as he lives.
Sirach 3:13
And if his understanding fails, have patience with him; and do not despise when you are in your full strength.

Sirach 3:21
Do not seek out things that are too hard for you, neither search the things that are above your strength. *17:36
Sirach 3:22
But what is commanded you, think thereupon with reverence, for it is not needful for you to see with your eyes, the things that are in secret.
Sirach 3:23
Do not be curious in unnecessary matters; for more things are shown to you than men understand.

Do not reject the supplication of the afflicted; neither turn your face away from a poor man.
Sirach 4:5
Do not turn away your eye from the needy, and give him no occasion to curse you;
Sirach 4:6
For if he curses you in the bitterness of his soul, his prayer will be heard of Him who made him.
Sirach 4:7
Get yourself the love of the congregation, and bow your head to a great man.
Sirach 4:8
Let it not grieve you to bow down your ear to the poor, and give him a friendly answer with meekness.
Sirach 4:9
Deliver him who suffers wrong from the hand of the oppressor; and do not be fainthearted when you sit in judgment.
Sirach 4:10
Be as a father to the fatherless, and instead of a husband to their mother; so will you be as the son of the Most High, and He will love you more than your mother does.
Sirach 4:11
Wisdom exalts her children, and lays hold of those who seek her.
Sirach 4:12
He who loves her loves life; and those who seek to her early will be filled with joy.
Sirach 4:13
He who holds her fast will inherit glory; and wherever she enters, the Lord will bless.
Sirach 4:14
Those who serve her will minister to the Holy One; and those who love her, the Lord loves.
Sirach 4:15
Whoso gives ear to her will judge the nations; and he who attends to her will dwell securely.
Sirach 4:16
If a man commits himself to her, he will inherit her; and his generation will hold her in possession.
Sirach 4:17
For at first, she will walk with him by crooked ways, and bring fear and dread upon him, and torment him with her discipline, until she may trust his soul, and try him by her laws.
Sirach 4:18
Then she will return the straight way to him, and comfort him, and show him her secrets.
Sirach 4:19
But if he goes wrong, she will forsake him, and give him over to his own ruin.
Sirach 4:20
Observe the opportunity, and beware of evil; and do not be ashamed when it concerns your soul.
Sirach 4:21
For there is a shame that brings sin; and there is a shame which is glory and grace.
Sirach 4:22
Accept no person against your soul, and do not let the reverence of any man cause you to fall.
Sirach 4:23
And do not refrain to speak, when there is occasion to do good, and do not hide your wisdom in her beauty.
Sirach 4:24
For by speech, wisdom will be known; and learning by the word of the tongue.
Sirach 4:25
In no wise speak against the truth; but be abashed of the error of your ignorance.

Do not let your hand be stretched out to receive, and shut when you should repay.
Sirach 5:1
Set your heart upon your goods; and do not say, "I have enough for my life."
Sirach 5:2
Do not follow your own mind and your strength, to walk in the ways of your heart;
Sirach 5:3
And do not say, "Who will control me for my works?" For the Lord will surely revenge your pride.
Sirach 5:4
Do not say, "I have sinned, and what harm has happened to me?" For the Lord is longsuffering, He will in no wise let you go.
Sirach 5:5
Concerning propitiation, do not be without fear to add sin to sin;
Sirach 5:6
And do not say, "His mercy is great; He will be pacified for the multitude of my sins;" for mercy and wrath come from Him, and His indignation rests upon sinners.
Sirach 5:7
Make no delay to turn to the Lord, and do not put off from day to day; for suddenly the wrath of the Lord will come forth, and in your security, you will be destroyed, and perish in the Day of Vengeance.
Sirach 5:8
Do not set your heart upon goods unjustly gotten, for they will not profit you in the Day of Calamity.
Sirach 5:9
Do not winnow with every wind, and do not go into every way; for so does the sinner who has a double tongue.
Sirach 5:10
Be stedfast in your understanding; and let your word be the same.
Sirach 5:11
Be swift to hear; and let your life be sincere; and with patience, give answer.
Sirach 5:12
If you have understanding, answer your neighbor; if not, lay your hand upon your mouth.
Sirach 5:13
Honor and shame is in talk; and the tongue of man is his fall.
Sirach 5:14
Do not be called a whisperer, and do not lie in wait with your tongue; for a foul shame is upon the thief, and an evil condemnation upon the double tongue.
Sirach 5:15
Do not be ignorant of anything in a great matter or a small.
Sirach 6:1
Instead of a friend, do not become an enemy; for [thereby] you will inherit an ill name, shame, and reproach; even so will a sinner who has a double tongue.
Sirach 6:2
Do not extol yourself in the counsel of your own heart; that your soul is not torn in pieces as a bull [straying alone.]
Sirach 6:3
You will eat up your leaves, and lose your fruit, and leave yourself as a dry tree.
Sirach 6:4
A wicked soul will destroy him who has it, and will make him to be laughed to scorn of his enemies.
Sirach 6:5
Sweet language will multiply friends; and a fairspeaking tongue will increase kind greetings.
Sirach 6:6
Be in peace with many; nevertheless, have but one counselor of a thousand.
Sirach 6:7
If you would get a friend, prove him first and do not be hasty to credit him.
Sirach 6:8
For some man is a friend for his own occasion, and will not abide in the day of your trouble.
Sirach 6:9
And there is a friend, who being turned to enmity, and strife will discover your reproach.
Sirach 6:10
Again, some friend is a companion at the table, and will not continue in the day of your affliction.
Sirach 6:11
But in your prosperity, he will be as yourself, and will be bold over your servants.
Sirach 6:12
If you are brought low, he will be against you, and will hide himself from your face.
Sirach 6:13
Separate yourself from your enemies, and take heed of your friends.
Sirach 6:14
A faithful friend is a strong defence; and he who has found such a one has found a treasure.
Sirach 6:15
Nothing countervails a faithful friend, and his excellency is invaluable.
Sirach 6:16
A faithful friend is the medicine of life; and those who fear the Lord will find him.
Sirach 6:17

My son, gather instruction from your youth up; so will you find wisdom until your old age.
Sirach 6:19
Come to her as one who plows and sows, and wait for her good fruits; for you will not toil much in laboring about her, but you will eat of her fruits right soon.
Sirach 6:20
She is very unpleasant to the unlearned; he who is without understanding will not remain with her.
Sirach 6:21
She will lie upon him as a mighty stone of trial; and he will cast her from him before it is long.
Sirach 6:22
For wisdom is according to her name, and she is not manifest to many.
Sirach 6:23
Give ear, my son, receive my advice, and do not refuse my counsel,
Sirach 6:24
And put your feet into her fetters, and your neck into her chain.

Bow down your shoulder, and bear her, and do not be grieved with her bonds.
Sirach 6:26
Come to her with your whole heart, and keep her ways with all your power.
Sirach 6:27
Search, and seek, and she will be made known to you; and when you have gotten hold of her, do not let her go.
Sirach 6:28
For at the last you will find her rest, and that will be turned to your joy.
Sirach 6:29
Then her fetters will be a strong defence for you, and her chains, a robe of glory.
Sirach 6:30
For there is a golden ornament upon her, and her bands are purple lace.
Sirach 6:31
You will put her on as a robe of honor, and will put her about you as a crown of joy.

Sirach 10:22
Whether he is rich, noble, or poor, their glory is the fear of the Lord.

Who will justify him who sins against his own soul? And who will honor him who dishonors his own life?
Sirach 10:30
The poor man is honored for his skill, and the rich man is honored for his riches.

Sirach 11:26
For it is an easy thing to the Lord in the day of death to reward a man according to his ways.

Sirach 12:1
When you will do good, know to whom you do it; so will you be thanked for your benefits.
Sirach 12:2
Do good to the Godly man, and you will find a recompence; and if not from him, yet from the Most High.
Sirach 12:3
No good can come to him who is always occupied in evil, nor to him who gives no alms.

Give to the Godly man, and do not help a sinner.
Sirach 12:5

Sirach 12:10
Never trust your enemy; for as iron rusts, so is his wickedness.
Sirach 12:11
Though he humbles himself, and goes crouching, yet take good heed and beware of him, and you will be to him as if you had wiped a lookingglass, and you will know that his rust has not been wiped away altogether.
Sirach 12:12
Do not set him by you, unless, when he has overthrown you, he stands up in your place; neither let him sit at your right hand, unless he seeks to take your seat, and you, at the last, remember my words, and are pricked therewith.
Sirach 12:13
Who will pity a charmer who is bitten with a serpent, or any such who come near wild beasts?
Sirach 12:14
So one who goes to a sinner, and is defiled with him in his sins, who will pity?
Sirach 12:15
For he will abide with you a while, but if you begin to fall, he will not remain.
Sirach 12:16
An enemy speaks sweetly with his lips, but in his heart he imagines how to throw you into a pit; he will weep with his eyes, but if he finds opportunity, he will not be satisfied with blood.

He who touches pitch will be defiled therewith; and he who has fellowship with a proud man will be like him.
Sirach 13:2
Do not burden yourself above your power while you live; and have no fellowship with one who is mightier and richer than yourself; for how do the kettle and the earthen pot agree together? For if the one is struck against the other, it will be broken.
Sirach 13:3
The rich man has done wrong, and yet he threatens withal; the poor are wronged, and he must intreat also.
Sirach 13:4

Sirach 13:5
If you have anything, he will live with you; indeed, he will make you bare, and will not be sorry for it.
Sirach 13:6
If he has need of you, he will deceive you, and smile upon you, and put you in hope; he will speak fair, and say, "What do you want?"

And he will shame you by his meats, until he has drawn you dry twice or three times, and at the last, he will laugh you to scorn afterward, when he sees you, he will forsake you, and shake his head at you.
Sirach 13:8
Beware that you are not deceived and brought down in your jollity.
Sirach 13:9
If you are invited of a mighty man, withdraw yourself, and he will invite you so much more.

Do not press upon him, unless you are put back; do not stand afar off, unless you become forgotten.
Sirach 13:11
Do not affect to be made equal to him in talk, and do not believe his many words; for he will tempt you with much communication, and smiling upon you, he will get your secrets out;
Sirach 13:12
But he will cruelly lay up your words, and will not spare to do you hurt, and to put you in prison.
Sirach 13:13
Observe, and take good heed, for you walk in peril of your overthrowing; when you hear these things, awake in your sleep.

As the proud hate humility; so do the rich abhor the poor.
Sirach 13:21
A rich man beginning to fall is held up by his friends; but a poor man being down is thrust away by his friends.
Sirach 13:22
When a rich man has fallen, he has many helpers; he speaks things not to be spoken, and yet men justify him; the poor man slipped, and yet they rebuked him too; he spoke wisely, and could have no place.
Sirach 13:23
When a rich man speaks, every man holds his tongue, and, look, what he says, they extol it to the clouds; but if the poor man speaks, they say, "What fellow is this?" And if he stumbles, they will help to overthrow him.

Sirach 22:2
A slothful man is compared to the filth of a dunghill; every man who takes it up will shake his hand.
Sirach 22:3
An evilnurtured man is the dishonor of his father who fathered him; and a [foolish] daughter is born to his loss.

Sirach 22:5
She who is bold dishonors both her father and her husband, but they will both despise her.
Sirach 22:6
A tale out of season [is as] music in mourning; but stripes and correction of wisdom are never out of time.
Sirach 22:7
Whoso teaches a fool is as one who glues a potsherd together, and as he who wakes one from a sound sleep.
Sirach 22:8
He who tells a tale to a fool speaks to one in a slumber; when he has told his tale, he will say, "What is the matter?"

Sirach 22:11
Weep for the dead, for he has lost the light; and weep for the fool, for he wants understanding; make little weeping for the dead, for he is at rest; but the life of the fool is worse than death.
Sirach 22:12
Seven days do men mourn for him who is dead; but for a fool and an ungodly man, all the days of his life.
Sirach 22:13
Do not talk much with a fool, and do not go to him who has no understanding; beware of him, unless you have trouble, and you will never be defiled with his fooleries; depart from him, and you will find rest, and never be disquieted with madness.

As timber girt and bound together in a building cannot be loosed with shaking; so the heart that is established by advised counsel will fear at no time.
Sirach 22:17
A heart settled upon a thought of understanding is as a fair plaistering on the wall of a gallery.
Sirach 22:18
Pales set on a high place will never stand against the wind; so a fearful heart in the imagination of a fool cannot stand against any fear.
Sirach 22:19
He who pricks the eye will make tears to fall; and he who pricks the heart makes it show her knowledge.
Sirach 22:20
Whoso casts a stone at the birds frays them away; and he who upbraids his friend breaks friendship.
Sirach 22:21
Though you drew a sword at your friend, yet do not despair; for there may be a returning [to favor.]
Sirach 22:22
If you have opened your mouth against your friend, do not fear; for there may be a reconciliation; except for upbraiding, or pride, or disclosing of secrets, or a treacherous wound; for these things, every friend will depart.
Sirach 22:23
Be faithful to your neighbor in his poverty, that you may rejoice in his prosperity; abide stedfast to him in the time of his trouble, that you may be an heir with him in his heritage; for a mean estate is not always to be contemned; nor the rich that is foolish to be had in admiration.
Sirach 22:24
As the vapor and smoke of a furnace go before the fire; so reviling before blood.
Sirach 22:25
I will not be ashamed to defend a friend; neither will I hide myself from him.
Sirach 22:26
And if any evil happens to me by him, everyone who hears it will beware of him.
Sirach 22:27
Who will set a watch before my mouth, and a seal of wisdom upon my lips, that I do not fall suddenly by them, and that my tongue does not destroy me?
Sirach 23:1
O Lord, Father and Governor of all my whole life, do not leave me to their counsels, and do not let me fall by them.
Sirach 23:2
Who will set scourges over my thoughts, and the discipline of wisdom over my heart? That they do not spare me for my ignorances, and it does not pass by my sins;
Sirach 23:3
Unless my ignorances increase, and my sins abound to my destruction, and I fall before my adversaries, and my enemy rejoices over me, whose hope is far from Your mercy.
Sirach 23:4
O Lord, Father and God of my life, do not give me a proud look, but always turn a haughty mind away from Your servants.
Sirach 23:5
Turn away vain hopes and concupiscence from me, and You will hold him up who is always desirous to serve You.
Sirach 23:6
Do not let the greediness of the belly, nor lust of the flesh take hold of me; and do not give over me, Your servant, into an impudent mind.
Sirach 23:7
Hear, O you children, the discipline of the mouth; he who keeps it will never be taken in his lips.
Sirach 23:8
The sinner will be left in his foolishness; both the evil speaker and the proud will fall thereby.
Sirach 23:9
Do not accustom your mouth to swearing; neither use yourself to the naming of the Holy One.
Sirach 23:10
For as a servant who is continually beaten will not be without a blue mark; so he who swears and names God continually will not be faultless.
Sirach 23:11
A man who uses much swearing will be filled with iniquity, and the plague will never depart from his house; if he will offend, his sin will be upon him; and if he does not acknowledge his sin, he makes a double offence; and if he swears in vain, he will not be innocent, but his house will be full of calamities.
Sirach 23:12
There is a word that is clothed about with death; God grants that it is not found in the heritage of Jacob; for all such things will be far from the Godly, and they will not wallow in their sins.
Sirach 23:13
Do not use your mouth to intemperate swearing, for therein is the word of sin.
Sirach 23:14
Remember your father and your mother, when you sit among great men. Do not be forgetful before them, and so you, by your custom, become a fool, and wish that you had not been born, and you curse the day of your nativity.
Sirach 23:15
The man who is accustomed to words of reproach will never be reformed all the days of his life.
Sirach 23:16
Two sorts of men multiply sin, and the third will bring wrath; a hot mind is as a burning fire, it will never be quenched until it is consumed; a fornicator in the body of his flesh will never cease until he has kindled a fire.
Sirach 23:17
All bread is sweet to a whoremonger, he will not leave off until he dies.
Sirach 23:18
A man who breaks wedlock, saying thus in his heart, "Who sees me? I am encompassed about with darkness, the walls cover me, and nobody sees me; what do I need to fear? The Most High will not remember my sins;"
Sirach 23:19

Sirach 23:20
He knew all things before they were ever created; so also after they were perfected, He looked upon them all.
Sirach 23:21
This man will be punished in the streets of the city, and where he does not suspect, he will be taken.
Sirach 23:22
Thus will it also go with the wife who leaves her husband, and brings in an heir by another.
Sirach 23:23
For first, she has disobeyed the law of the Most High; and secondly, she has trespassed against her own husband; and thirdly, she has played the whore in adultery, and brought children by another man.
Sirach 23:24
She will be brought out into the congregation, and inquisition will be made of her children.
Sirach 23:25
Her children will not take root, and her branches will bring forth no fruit.
Sirach 23:26
She will leave her memory to be cursed, and her reproach will not be blotted out.
Sirach 23:27
And those who remain will know that there is nothing better than the fear of the Lord, and that there is nothing sweeter than to take heed to the commandments of the Lord.

Sirach 24:2
In the congregation of the Most High, she will open her mouth, and triumph before His power.
Sirach 24:3
"I came out of the mouth of the Most High, and covered the earth as a cloud.
Sirach 24:4
I dwelt in high places, and my throne is in a cloudy pillar.
Sirach 24:5
I alone compassed the circuit of heaven, and walked in the bottom of the deep.
Sirach 24:6
In the waves of the sea and in all the earth, and in every people and nation, I got a possession.
Sirach 24:7
With all these I sought rest; and in whose inheritance will I abide?
Sirach 24:8
So the Creator of all things gave me a commandment, and He who made me caused my tabernacle to rest, and said, 'Let your dwelling be in Jacob, and your inheritance in Israel.'
Sirach 24:9
He created me from the beginning before the world, and I will never fail.
Sirach 24:10
In the holy tabernacle I served before Him; and so I was established in Zion.
Sirach 24:11
Likewise in the beloved city, He gave me rest, and in Jerusalem was my power.
Sirach 24:12
And I took root in an honorable people, even in the portion of the Lord's inheritance.
Sirach 24:13
I was exalted like a cedar in Libanus, and as a cypress tree upon the mountains of Hermon.
Sirach 24:14
I was exalted like a palm tree in En-gaddi, and as a rose plant in Jericho, as a fair olive tree in a pleasant field, and grew up as a plane tree by the water.
Sirach 24:15
I gave a sweet smell like cinnamon and aspalathus, and I yielded a pleasant odor like the best myrrh, as galbanum, and onyx, and sweet storax, and as the fume of frankincense in the tabernacle.
Sirach 24:16
As the turpentine tree, I stretched out my branches, and my branches are the branches of honor and grace.
Sirach 24:17
As the vine, I brought forth pleasant savor, and my flowers are the fruit of honor and riches.
Sirach 24:18
I am the mother of fair love, and fear, and knowledge, and holy hope; I therefore, being eternal, am given to all my children who are named of Him.
Sirach 24:19
Come to me, all you who are desirous of me, and fill yourselves with my fruits.
Sirach 24:20
For my memorial is sweeter than honey, and my inheritance, [sweeter] than the honeycomb.
Sirach 24:21
Those who eat me will yet be hungry, and those who drink me will yet be thirsty.
Sirach 24:22
He who obeys me will never be confounded, and those who work by me will not sin.
Sirach 24:23
All these things are the Book of the covenant of the Most High God, even the law which Moses commanded for a heritage to the congregations of Jacob.
Sirach 24:24
Do not faint to be strong in the Lord; so that He may confirm you, cleave to Him; for the Lord Almighty is God alone, and there is no other savior beside Him. *2:107, *4:123, *6:51, *9:116, *29:22, *33:17, *42:8, *42:31
Sirach 24:25
He fills all things with His wisdom, as Phison and as Tigris in the time of the new fruits.
Sirach 24:26
He makes the understanding to abound like Euphrates, and as Jordan in the time of the harvest.
Sirach 24:27
He makes the doctrine of knowledge appear as the light, and as Geon in the time of vintage.
Sirach 24:28
The first man did not know her perfectly; no more will the last find her out.
Sirach 24:29
For her thoughts are more than the sea, and her counsels profounder than the great deep.
Sirach 24:30
I also came out as a brook from a river, and as a conduit into a garden.
Sirach 24:31
I said, 'I will water my best garden, and will water my garden bed abundantly;' and, lo, my brook became a river, and my river became a sea.
Sirach 24:32
I will yet make doctrine to shine as the morning, and will send forth her light afar off.
Sirach 24:33
I will yet pour out doctrine as prophecy, and leave it to all ages forever.
Sirach 24:34
Behold that I have not labored for myself only, but for all those who seek wisdom.
Sirach 25:1
In three things I was beautified, and stood up beautiful both before God and men; the unity of brethren, the love of neighbors, a man and a wife who agree together.
Sirach 25:2
Three sorts of men, my soul hates, and I am greatly offended at their life; a poor man who is proud, a rich man who is a liar, and an old adulterer who lessens.
Sirach 25:3
If you have gathered nothing in your youth, how can you find anything in your age?
Sirach 25:4
O how comely a thing is judgment for gray hairs, and for ancient men to know counsel!
Sirach 25:5
O how comely is the wisdom of old men, and understanding and counsel to men of honor.
Sirach 25:6
Much experience is the crown of old men, and the fear of God is their glory.
Sirach 25:7
There are nine things which I have judged in my heart to be happy, and the tenth, I will utter with my tongue; 'A man who has joy of his children; and he who lives to see the fall of his enemy;'
Sirach 25:8
Well is he who dwells with a wife of understanding, and who has not slipped with his tongue, and who has not served a man more unworthy than himself;

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of His love; and faith is the beginning of cleaving to Him.
Sirach 25:13
[Give me] any plague, but the plague of the heart; and any wickedness, but the wickedness of a woman;
Sirach 25:14
And any affliction, but the affliction from those who hate me; and any revenge, but the revenge of enemies.
Sirach 25:15
There is no head above the head of a serpent; and there is no wrath above the wrath of an enemy.
Sirach 25:16
I had rather dwelled with a lion and a dragon, than to keep house with a wicked woman.
Sirach 25:17
The wickedness of a woman changes her face, and darkens her countenance like sackcloth.
Sirach 25:18
Her husband will sit among his neighbors; and when he hears it, he will sigh bitterly.
Sirach 25:19
All wickedness is but little to the wickedness of a woman; let the portion of a sinner fall upon her.

As the climbing up a sandy way is to the feet of the aged, so is a wife full of words to a quiet man.
Sirach 25:21
Do not stumble at the beauty of a woman, and do not desire her for pleasure. *Matthew 5:28, *24:30
Sirach 25:22
A woman, if she maintains her husband, is full of anger, impudence, and much reproach.
Sirach 25:23
A wicked woman abates the courage, makes a heavy countenance and a wounded heart; a woman who will not comfort her husband in distress makes weak hands and feeble knees.
Sirach 25:24
Of the woman, came the beginning of sin, and through her, we all die.
Sirach 25:25
Give the water no passage; neither a wicked woman liberty to gad abroad.

There are three things that my heart fears; and for the fourth I was sore afraid; the slander of a city, the gathering together of an unruly multitude, and a false accusation; all these are worse than death.
Sirach 26:6
But a grief of heart and sorrow is a woman who is jealous over another woman, and a scourge of the tongue which communicates with all.
Sirach 26:7

The grace of a wife delights her husband, and her discretion will fatten his bones.
Sirach 26:14
A silent and loving woman is a gift of the Lord; and there is nothing worth so much as a well-instructed mind.
Sirach 26:15
A shamefaced and faithful woman is a double grace, and her continent mind cannot be valued.
Sirach 26:16
As the sun when it arises in the high heaven; so is the beauty of a good wife in the ordering of her house.
Sirach 26:17
As the clear light is upon the holy candlestick; so is the beauty of the face in ripe age.

Sirach 26:22
A harlot will be accounted as spittle; but a married woman is a tower against death to her husband.
Sirach 26:23
A wicked woman is given as a portion to a wicked man; but a Godly woman is given to him who fears the Lord.
Sirach 26:24
A dishonest woman contemns shame; but an honest woman will reverence her husband.
Sirach 26:25
A shameless woman will be counted as a dog; but she who is shamefaced will fear the Lord.

Sirach 26:29
A merchant will hardly keep himself from doing wrong; and a huckster will not be freed from sin.
Sirach 27:1
Many have sinned for a small matter; and he who seeks for abundance will turn his eyes away.
Sirach 27:2
As a nail sticks fast between the joinings of the stones; so does sin stick close between buying and selling.

Sirach 27:13
The discourse of fools is irksome, and their sport is the wantonness of sin.
Sirach 27:14
The talk of him who swears much makes the hair stand upright; and their brawls make one stop his ears.
Sirach 27:15

Sirach 27:16
Whoso discovers secrets loses his credit; and will never find a friend to his mind.
Sirach 27:17

Sirach 27:18
For as a man has destroyed his enemy; so have you lost the love of your neighbor.
Sirach 27:19
As one who lets a bird go out of his hand, so have you let your neighbor go, and will not get him again
Sirach 27:20
Follow after him no more, for he is too far off; he is as a roe escaped out of the snare.
Sirach 27:21
As for a wound, it may be bound up; and after reviling there may be reconcilement; but he who betrays secrets is without hope.
Sirach 27:22
He who winks with the eyes works evil; and he who knows him will depart from him.

Sirach 28:6
Remember your end, and let enmity cease; [remember] corruption and death, and abide in the commandments.
Sirach 28:7
Remember the commandments, and bear no malice to your neighbor; [remember] the covenant of the Highest, and wink at ignorance.
Sirach 28:8
Abstain from strife, and you will diminish your sins; for a furious man will kindle strife,
Sirach 28:9
A sinful man disquiets friends, and makes debate among those who are at peace.
Sirach 28:10
As the matter of the fire is, so it burns; and as a man's strength is, so is his wrath; and according to his riches his anger rises; and the stronger they are who contend, the more they will be inflamed.
Sirach 28:11
A hasty contention kindles a fire; and a hasty fighting sheds blood.
Sirach 28:12
If you blow the spark, it will burn; if you spit upon it, it will be quenched; and both these come out of your mouth.
Sirach 28:13
Curse the whisperer and doubletongued; for such have destroyed many who were at peace.
Sirach 28:14
A backbiting tongue has disquieted many, and driven them from nation to nation; it has pulled down strong cities, and overthrown the houses of great men.
Sirach 28:15
A backbiting tongue has cast out virtuous women, and deprived them of their labors.
Sirach 28:16
Whoso listens to it will never find rest, and never dwell quietly.
Sirach 28:17
The stroke of the whip makes marks in the flesh; but the stroke of the tongue breaks the bones.
Sirach 28:18
Many have fallen by the edge of the sword; but not so many as have fallen by the tongue.
Sirach 28:19
Well is he who is defended through the venom thereof; who has not drawn the yoke thereof, nor has been bound in her bands.

Sirach 28:24
Look that you hedge your possession about with thorns, and bind up your silver and gold,
Sirach 28:25
And weigh your words in a balance, and make a door and bar for your mouth.
Sirach 28:26
Beware [that] you do not slide by it, unless you fall before him who lies in wait.
Sirach 29:1
He who is merciful will lend to his neighbor; and he who strengthens his hand keeps the commandments.
Sirach 29:2
Lend to your neighbor in a time of his need, and pay your neighbor again in due season.
Sirach 29:3
Keep your word, and deal faithfully with him, and you will always find the thing that is necessary for you.
Sirach 29:4
Many, when a thing was lent them, reckoned it to be found, and put them to trouble who helped them.
Sirach 29:5
Until he has received, he will kiss a man's hand; and for his neighbor's money, he will speak submissly; but when he should repay, he will prolong the time, and return words of grief, and complain of the time.
Sirach 29:6
If he prevails, he will hardly receive the half, and he will count as if he had found it; if not, he has deprived him of his money, and he has gotten him an enemy without cause; he pays him with cursings and railings; and for honor, he will pay him disgrace.
Sirach 29:7
Many therefore have refused to lend for other men's ill dealing, fearing to be defrauded.

Sirach 29:15
Do not forget the friendship of your pledge, for he has given his life for you.
Sirach 29:16
A sinner will overthrow the good estate of his pledge;
Sirach 29:17
And he who is of an unthankful mind will leave him [in danger] who delivered him.
Sirach 29:18
Suretiship has undone many of good estate, and shaken them as a wave of the sea; it has driven mighty men from their houses, so that they wandered among strange nations.
Sirach 29:19
A wicked man transgressing the commandments of the Lord will fall into suretiship; and he who undertakes and follows other men's business for gain will fall into judgment.
Sirach 29:20
Help your neighbor according to your power, and beware that you yourself do not fall into the same.
Sirach 29:21
The chief thing for life is water, and bread, and clothing, and a house to cover shame.
Sirach 29:22
Better is the life of a poor man in a mean cottage, than delicate fare in another man's house.
Sirach 29:23
Be it little or much, hold yourself contented, that you do not hear the reproach of your house.
Sirach 29:24
For it is a miserable life to go from house to house; for where you are a stranger, you do not dare open your mouth.
Sirach 29:25
You will entertain, and feast, and have no thanks; moreover, you will hear bitter words;
Sirach 29:26
Come, you stranger, and furnish a table, and feed me of that [which] you have ready.
Sirach 29:27
Give place, you stranger, to an honorable man; my brother comes to be lodged, and I have need of my house.
Sirach 29:28
These things are grievous to a man of understanding; the upbraiding of houseroom, and reproaching of the lender.
Sirach 30:1
He who loves his son causes him to often feel the rod, that he may have joy of him in the end.
Sirach 30:2
He who chastises his son will have joy in him, and will rejoice of him among his acquaintance.
Sirach 30:3
He who teaches his son grieves the enemy; and he will rejoice of him before his friends.
Sirach 30:4
Though his father dies, yet he is as though he were not dead; for he has left one behind him who is like himself.
Sirach 30:5
While he lived, he saw and rejoiced in him; and when he died, he was not sorrowful.
Sirach 30:6
He left behind him an avenger against his enemies, and one who will requite kindness to his friends.
Sirach 30:7
He who makes too much of his son will bind up his wounds; and his bowels will be troubled at every cry.
Sirach 30:8
A horse not broken becomes headstrong; and a child left to himself will be willful.
Sirach 30:9
Cocker your child, and he will make you afraid; play with him, and he will bring you to heaviness.
Sirach 30:10
Do not laugh with him, unless you have sorrow with him, and unless you gnash your teeth in the end.
Sirach 30:11
Give him no liberty in his youth, and do not wink at his follies.
Sirach 30:12
Bow down his neck while he is young, and beat him on the sides while he is a child, unless he waxes stubborn, and becomes disobedient to you, and so brings sorrow to your heart.
Sirach 30:13
Chastise your son, and hold him to labor, unless his lewd behaviour becomes an offence to you.
Sirach 30:14
Better is the poor, being sound and strong of constitution, than a rich man who is afflicted in his body.
Sirach 30:15
Health and good estate of body are above all gold, and a strong body above infinite wealth.
Sirach 30:16
There are no riches above a sound body, and no joy above the joy of the heart.
Sirach 30:17
Death is better than a bitter life or continual sickness.
Sirach 30:18
Delicates poured upon a mouth shut up are as messes of meat set upon a grave.
Sirach 30:19
What good does the offering to an idol? For neither can it eat or smell; so is he who is persecuted of the Lord.
Sirach 30:20
He sees with his eyes and groans, as an eunuch who embraces a virgin and sighs.
Sirach 30:21
Do not give over your mind to heaviness, and do not afflict yourself in your own counsel.
Sirach 30:22
The gladness of the heart is the life of man, and the joyfulness of a man prolongs his days.
Sirach 30:23
Love your own soul, and comfort your heart, remove sorrow far from you; for sorrow has killed many, and there is no profit therein.
Sirach 30:24
Envy and wrath shorten the life, and carefulness brings age before the time.
Sirach 30:25
A cheerful and good heart will have a care of his meat and diet.
Sirach 31:1
Watching for riches consumes the flesh, and the care thereof drives away sleep.
Sirach 31:2
Watching care will not let a man slumber, as a sore disease breaks sleep,
Sirach 31:3
The rich have great labor in gathering riches together; and when he rests, he is filled with his delicates.
Sirach 31:4
The poor labors in his poor estate; and when he leaves off, he is still needy.
Sirach 31:5
He who loves gold will not be justified, and he who follows corruption will have enough thereof.
Sirach 31:6
Gold has been the ruin of many, and their destruction was present.
Sirach 31:7
It is a stumblingblock to those who sacrifice to it, and every fool will be taken therewith.
Sirach 31:8
Blessed is the rich who is found without blemish, and has not gone after gold.
Sirach 31:9
Who is he? And we will call him blessed; for he has done wonderful things among his people.
Sirach 31:10
Who has been tried thereby, and found perfect? Then let him glory. Who might offend, and has not offended? Or done evil, and has not done it?
Sirach 31:11
His goods will be established, and the congregation will declare his alms.
Sirach 31:12
If you sit at a bountiful table, do not be greedy upon it, and do not say, "There is much meat on it."
Sirach 31:13
Remember that a wicked eye is an evil thing; and what is created more wicked than an eye? Therefore it weeps upon every occasion.
Sirach 31:14
Do not stretch your hand wherever it looks, and do not thrust with him into the dish.
Sirach 31:15
Do not judge your neighbor by yourself; and be discreet in every point.
Sirach 31:16
Eat as it becomes a man, those things which are set before you; and devour note, unless you become hated.
Sirach 31:17
Leave off first for manners' sake; and do not be unsatiable, unless you offend.
Sirach 31:18
When you sit among many, do not reach your hand out first of all.
Sirach 31:19
A very little is sufficient for a man well nurtured, and he does not fetch his wind short upon his bed.
Sirach 31:20
Sound sleep comes of moderate eating; he rises early, and his wits are with him; but the pain of watching, and choler, and pangs of the belly, are with an unsatiable man.
Sirach 31:21
And if you have been forced to eat, arise, go forth, vomit, and you will have rest.
Sirach 31:22
My son, hear me, and do not despise me, and at the last you will find as I told you; in all your works be quick, so will no sickness come to you.
Sirach 31:23
Whoso is liberal of his meat, men will speak well of him; and the report of his good housekeeping will be believed.
Sirach 31:24
But against him who is miserable of his meat, the whole city will murmur; and the testimonies of his miserableness will not be doubted of.
Sirach 31:25
Do not show your valiantness in wine; for wine has destroyed many.
Sirach 31:26
The furnace proves the edge by dipping; so does wine by drunkeness [prove] the hearts of the proud.
Sirach 31:27
Wine is as good as life to a man, if it is drunk moderately; what life is then to a man who is without wine? For it was made to make men glad.
Sirach 31:28
Wine drunk measurably and in season brings gladness of the heart, and cheerfulness of the mind;
Sirach 31:29
But wine drunken with excess makes bitterness of the mind, with brawling and quarrelling.
Sirach 31:30
Drunkenness increases the rage of a fool until he offends; it diminishes strength, and makes wounds.
Sirach 31:31
Do not rebuke your neighbor at the wine, and do not despise him in his mirth; give him no despiteful words, and do not press upon him with urging him [to drink.]
Sirach 32:1
If you are made the master [of a feast,] do not lift yourself up, but be among them as one of the rest; take diligent care for them, and so sit down.
Sirach 32:2
And when you have done all your office, take your place, that you may be merry with them, and receive a crown for your well ordering of the feast.
Sirach 32:3
Speak, you who are the elder, for it behooves you, but with sound judgment; and do not hinder music.
Sirach 32:4
Do not pour out words where there is a musician, and do not show forth wisdom out of time.
Sirach 32:5
A concert of music in a banquet of wine is as a signet of carbuncle set in gold.
Sirach 32:6
As a signet of an emerald set in a work of gold, so is the melody of music with pleasant wine.
Sirach 32:7
Speak, young man, if there is need of you; and yet scarcely when you are asked twice.
Sirach 32:8
Do not let your speech be short, comprehending much in few words; be as one who knows and yet holds his tongue.
Sirach 32:9
If you are among great men, do not make yourself equal with them; and when ancient men are in place, do not use many words.
Sirach 32:10
Before the thunder goes lightning; and before a shamefaced man will go favor.

Sirach 32:12
There, take your pastime, and do what you will; but do not sin by proud speech.
Sirach 32:13
And for these things, bless Him who made you, and has replenished you with His good things.
Sirach 32:14
Whoso fears the Lord will receive His discipline; and those who seek Him early will find favor.
Sirach 32:15
He who seeks the law will be filled therewith; but the hypocrite will be offended thereat.
Sirach 32:16
Those who fear the Lord will find judgment, and will kindle justice as a light.
Sirach 32:17
A sinful man will not be reproved, but find an excuse according to his will.
Sirach 32:18
A man of counsel will be considerate; but a strange and proud man is not daunted with fear, even when, of himself, he has done without counsel.
Sirach 32:19
Do nothing without advice; and when you have once done, do not repent.
Sirach 32:20
Do not go in a way wherein you may fall, and do not stumble among the stones.
Sirach 32:21
Do not be confident in a plain way.
Sirach 32:22
And beware of your own children.
Sirach 32:23
In every good work, trust your own soul; for this is the keeping of the commandments.
Sirach 32:24
He who believes in the Lord takes heed to the commandment; and he who trusts in Him will never fare the worse.
Sirach 33:1
No evil will happen to him who fears the Lord; but in temptation, even again, He will deliver him.
Sirach 33:2
A wise man does not hate the law; but he who is a hypocrite therein is as a ship in a storm.
Sirach 33:3
A man of understanding trusts in the law; and the law is faithful to him, as an oracle.
Sirach 33:4
Prepare what to say, and so you will be heard; and bind up instruction, and then make answer.
Sirach 33:5
The heart of the foolish is like a cartwheel; and his thoughts are like a rolling axletree.
Sirach 33:6
A stallion horse is as a mocking friend, he neighs under everyone who sits upon him.
Sirach 33:7
Why does one day excel another, when all the light of every day in the year is as of the sun?
Sirach 33:8
By the knowledge of the Lord they were distinguished; and He altered seasons and feasts.
Sirach 33:9
Some of them He has made high days, and made them holy, and some of them He has made ordinary days.
Sirach 33:10
And all men are from the ground, and Adam was created of earth;
Sirach 33:11
In much knowledge, the Lord has divided them, and made their ways diverse.
Sirach 33:12
Some of them He has blessed and exalted, and some of them He sanctified, and set near Himself; but some of them He has cursed and brought low, and turned out of their places.
Sirach 33:13
As the clay is in the potter's hand, to fashion it at his pleasure; so man is in the hand of Him who made him, to render to them according to His judgment.
Sirach 33:14
Good is set against evil, and life against death; so is the Godly against the sinner, and the sinner against the Godly.
Sirach 33:15
So look upon all the works of the Most High; and there are two and two, one against another. *36:36, *51:49
Sirach 33:16
I awoke up last of all, as one who gathers after the grapegatherers; by the blessing of the Lord, I profited, and tread my winepress like a gatherer of grapes.
Sirach 33:17
Consider that I did not labor for myself only, but for all those who seek learning.
Sirach 33:18
Hear me, O you great men of the people, and listen with your ears, you rulers of the congregation.
Sirach 33:19
Do not give your son and wife, your brother and friend, power over you while you live, and do not give your goods to another; unless it repents you, and you intreat for the same again.
Sirach 33:20
As long as you live and have breath in you, do not give yourself over to any.
Sirach 33:21
For it is better that your children should seek you, than that you should stand to their courtesy.
Sirach 33:22
In all your works, keep to yourself the preeminence; do not leave a stain in your honor.
Sirach 33:23
At the time when you will end your days, and finish your life, distribute your inheritance.
Sirach 33:24
Fodder, a wand, and burdens, are for the ass; and bread, correction, and work, for a servant.
Sirach 33:25
If you set your servant to labor, you will find rest; but if you let him go idle, he will seek liberty.
Sirach 33:26
A yoke and a collar bow the neck; so are tortures and torments for an evil servant.
Sirach 33:27
Send him to labor, that he is not idle; for idleness teaches much evil.
Sirach 33:28
Set him to work, as is fit for him; if he is not obedient, put on more heavy fetters.
Sirach 33:29
But do not be excessive toward any; and do nothing without discretion.
Sirach 33:30
If you have a servant, let him be to you as yourself, because you have bought him with a price.
Sirach 33:31
If you have a servant, entreat him as a brother; for you have need of him, as of your own soul; if you entreat him evil, and he runs from you, which way will you go to seek him?
Sirach 34:1
The hopes of a man void of understanding are vain and false; and dreams lift up fools.
Sirach 34:2
Whoso regards dreams is like him who catches at a shadow, and follows after the wind.
Sirach 34:3
The vision of dreams is the resemblance of one thing to another, even as the likeness of a face to a face.
Sirach 34:4
Of an unclean thing, what can be cleansed? And from that thing which is false, what truth can come?
Sirach 34:5
Divinations, and soothsayings, and dreams, are vain; and the heart fancies, as a woman's heart in travail.
Sirach 34:6
If they are not sent from the Most High in your visitation, do not set your heart upon them.
Sirach 34:7
For dreams have deceived many, and they have failed who put their trust in them.
Sirach 34:8
The law will be found perfect without lies; and wisdom is perfection to a faithful mouth.
Sirach 34:9
A man who has travelled knows many things; and he who has much experience will declare wisdom.
Sirach 34:10
He who has no experience knows little; but he who has travelled is full of prudence.
Sirach 34:11
When I travelled, I saw many things; and I understand more than I can express.
Sirach 34:12
I was often times in danger of death; yet I was delivered because of these things.
Sirach 34:13
The spirit of those who fear the Lord will live; for their hope is in Him who saves them.
Sirach 34:14
Whoso fears the Lord will not fear or be afraid; for He is his hope.
Sirach 34:15
Blessed is the soul of him who fears the Lord; to whom does he look? And who is his strength?
Sirach 34:16
For the eyes of the Lord are upon those who love Him, He is their mighty protection and strong stay, a defence from heat, and a cover from the sun at noon, a preservation from stumbling, and a help from falling.
Sirach 34:17
He raises up the soul, and lightens the eyes; He gives health, life, and blessing.
Sirach 34:18
He who sacrifices of a thing wrongfully gotten, his offering is ridiculous; and the gifts of unjust men are not accepted.
Sirach 34:19
The Most High is not pleased with the offerings of the wicked; neither is He pacified for sin by the multitude of sacrifices.
Sirach 34:20
Whoso brings an offering of the goods of the poor does as one who kills the son before his father's eyes.
Sirach 34:21
The bread of the needy is their life; he who defrauds him thereof is a man of blood.
Sirach 34:22
He who takes away his neighbor's living slays him; and he who defrauds the laborer of his hire is a bloodshedder.
Sirach 34:23
When one builds, and another pulls down, what profit do they have then but labor?
Sirach 34:24
When one prays, and another curses, whose voice will the Lord hear?
Sirach 34:25
He who washes himself after the touching of a dead body, if he touches it again, what avails his washing?
Sirach 34:26
So is it with a man who fasts for his sins, and goes again, and does the same; who will hear his prayer? Or what does his humbling profit him?
Sirach 35:1
He who keeps the law brings enough offerings; he who takes heed to the commandment offers a peace offering.
Sirach 35:2
He who requites a goodturn offers fine flour; and he who gives alms sacrifices praise.
Sirach 35:3
To depart from wickedness is a thing pleasing to the Lord; and to forsake unrighteousness is a propitiation.
Sirach 35:4
You will not appear empty before the Lord.
Sirach 35:5
For all these things [are to be done] because of the commandment.
Sirach 35:6
The offering of the righteous makes the altar fat, and the sweet savor thereof is before the Most High.
Sirach 35:7
The sacrifice of a just man is acceptable. And the memorial thereof will never be forgotten.
Sirach 35:8
Give the Lord His honor with a good eye, and diminish not the firstfruits of your hands.
Sirach 35:9
In all your gifts, show a cheerful countenance, and dedicate your tithes with gladness.
Sirach 35:10
Give to the Most High accordingly as He has enriched you; and as you have gotten, give with a cheerful eye.
Sirach 35:11
For the Lord recompenses, and will give you seven times as much.
Sirach 35:12
Do not think to corrupt with gifts; for He will not receive such; and do not trust unrighteous sacrifices; for the Lord is Judge, and with Him is no partiality.
Sirach 35:13
He will not accept any person against a poor man, but will hear the prayer of the oppressed.
Sirach 35:14
He will not despise the supplication of the fatherless; nor the widow, when she pours out her complaint.
Sirach 35:15
Do the tears not run down the widow's cheeks? And is her cry not against him who causes them to fall?
Sirach 35:16
He who serves the Lord will be accepted with favor, and his prayer will reach to the clouds.
Sirach 35:17
The prayer of the humble pierces the clouds; and until it comes near, he will not be comforted; and will not depart, until the Most High will behold to judge righteously, and execute judgment.
Sirach 35:18
For the Lord will not be slack, neither will the Mighty be patient toward them, until He has smitten in sunder the loins of the unmerciful, and repaid vengeance to the heathen; until He has taken away the multitude of the proud, and broken the sceptre of the unrighteous;
Sirach 35:19
Until He has rendered to every man according to his deeds, and to the works of men according to their devices; until He has judged the cause of His people, and made them to rejoice in His mercy.
Sirach 35:20
Mercy is seasonable in the time of affliction, as clouds of rain in the time of drought.
Sirach 36:1
Have mercy upon us, O Lord God of all, and behold us;
Sirach 36:2
And send Your fear upon all the nations that do not seek after You.
Sirach 36:3
Lift up Your hand against the strange nations, and let them see Your power.
Sirach 36:4
As You were sanctified in us before them; so are You magnified among them before us.
Sirach 36:5
And let them know You, as we have known You, that there is no God but only You, O God.
Sirach 36:6
Show new signs, and make other strange wonders; glorify Your hand and Your right arm, that they may set forth Your wondrous works.
Sirach 36:7
Raise up indignation, and pour out wrath; take away the adversary, and destroy the enemy.
Sirach 36:8
Be diligent in season, remember the covenant, and let them declare Your wonderful works.
Sirach 36:9
Let him who escapes be consumed by the rage of the fire; and let them perish who oppress the people.
Sirach 36:10
Smite the heads of the rulers of the heathen in sunder, who say, "There is none other but us."
Sirach 36:11
Gather all the tribes of Jacob together, and inherit them, as from the beginning.
Sirach 36:12
O Lord, have mercy upon the people who are called by Your name, and upon Israel, whom You have named Your firstborn.
Sirach 36:13
O be merciful to Jerusalem, Your holy city, the place of Your rest.
Sirach 36:14
Fill Zion with Your unspeakable oracles, and Your people with Your glory;
Sirach 36:15
Give testimony to those whom You have possessed from the beginning, and raise up prophets who have been in Your name.
Sirach 36:16
Reward those who wait for You, and let Your prophets be found faithful.
Sirach 36:17
O Lord, hear the prayer of Your servants, according to the blessing of Aaron over Your people, that all those who dwell upon the earth may know that You are the Lord, the eternal God.
Sirach 36:18
The belly devours all meats, yet one meat is better than another.
Sirach 36:19
As the palate tastes various kinds of venison; so does a heart of understanding, false speeches.
Sirach 36:20
A froward heart causes heaviness; but a man of experience will recompense him.
Sirach 36:21
A woman will receive every man, yet one daughter is better than another.
Sirach 36:22
The beauty of a woman cheers the countenance, and a man loves nothing better.
Sirach 36:23
If there is kindness, meekness, and comfort, in her tongue, then her husband is not like other men.
Sirach 36:24
He who gets a wife begins a possession, a help like to himself, and a pillar of rest.
Sirach 36:25
Where no hedge is, there the possession is spoiled; and he who has no wife will wander up and down mourning.
Sirach 36:26
Who will trust a thief well appointed, who skips from city to city? So [who will believe] a man who has no house, and lodges wherever the night takes him?
Sirach 37:1
Every friend says, "I am his friend also;" but there is a friend, who is only a friend in name.
Sirach 37:2
Is it not a grief to death, when a companion and friend are turned to an enemy?
Sirach 37:3
O wicked imagination, from where did you come in to cover the earth with deceit?
Sirach 37:4
There is a companion, who rejoices in the prosperity of a friend, but will be against him in the time of trouble.
Sirach 37:5
There is a companion, who helps his friend for the belly, and takes up the buckler against the enemy.
Sirach 37:6
Do not forget your friend in your mind, and do not be unmindful of him in your riches.
Sirach 37:7
Every counselor extols counsel; but there are some who counsel for himself.
Sirach 37:8
Beware of a counselor, and know before what need he has; for he will counsel for himself; unless he cast the lot upon you,
Sirach 37:9
And say to you, "Your way is good;" and afterward he stands on the other side, to see what will befall you.
Sirach 37:10
Do not consult with one who suspects you; and hide your counsel from such who envy you.
Sirach 37:11
Neither consult with a woman touching her of whom she is jealous; neither with a coward in matters of war; nor with a merchant concerning exchange; nor with a buyer of selling; nor with an envious man of thankfulness; nor with an unmerciful man touching kindness; nor with the slothful for any work; nor with a hireling for a year of finishing work; nor with an idle servant of much business; do not listen to these in any matter of counsel.
Sirach 37:12
But be continually with a Godly man, whom you know keeps the commandments of the Lord, whose, mind is according to your mind, and will sorrow with you, if you will miscarry.
Sirach 37:13
And let the counsel of your own heart stand; for there is no man more faithful to you than it.
Sirach 37:14
For a man's mind is sometimes accustomed to tell him more than seven watchmen, who sit above in a high tower.
Sirach 37:15
And above all this, pray to the Most High, that He will direct your way in truth.
Sirach 37:16
Let reason go before every enterprize, and counsel before every action.
Sirach 37:17
The countenance is a sign of changing of the heart.
Sirach 37:18
Four manner of things appear; good and evil, life and death; but the tongue rules over them continually.
Sirach 37:19
There is one who is wise and teaches many, and yet is unprofitable to himself.
Sirach 37:20
There is one who shows wisdom in words, and is hated; he will be destitute of all food.
Sirach 37:21
For grace is not given, him from the Lord, because he is deprived of all wisdom.
Sirach 37:22
Another is wise to himself; and the fruits of understanding are commendable in his mouth.
Sirach 37:23
A wise man instructs his people; and the fruits of his understanding do not fail.
Sirach 37:24
A wise man will be filled with blessing; and all those who see him will count him happy.
Sirach 37:25
The days of the life of man may be numbered; but the days of Israel are innumerable.
Sirach 37:26
A wise man will inherit glory among his people, and his name will be perpetual.
Sirach 37:27
My son, prove your soul in your life, and see what is evil for it, and do not give that to it.
Sirach 37:28
For all things are not profitable for all men, neither does every soul have pleasure in everything.
Sirach 37:29
Do not be unsatiable in any dainty thing, nor too greedy upon meats;
Sirach 37:30
For excess of meats brings sickness, and surfeiting will turn into choler.
Sirach 37:31
By surfeiting have many perished; but he who takes heed prolongs his life.
Sirach 38:1
Honor a physician with the honor due to him for the uses which you may have of him; for the Lord has created him.
Sirach 38:2
For of the Most High comes healing, and He will receive honor of the king.
Sirach 38:3
The skill of the physician will lift up his head; and in the sight of great men, he will be in admiration.
Sirach 38:4
The Lord has created medicines out of the earth; and he who is wise will not abhor them.
Sirach 38:5
Was the water not made sweet with wood, that the virtue thereof might be known?
Sirach 38:6
And He has given men skill, that He might be honored in His marvelous works.
Sirach 38:7
With such does He heal [men,] and takes away their pains.
Sirach 38:8
Of such does the apothecary make a confection; and of His works there is no end; and from Him is peace over all the earth,
Sirach 38:9
My son, in your sickness do not be negligent; but pray to the Lord, and He will make you whole.
Sirach 38:10
Leave off from sin, and order your hands aright, and cleanse your heart from all wickedness.
Sirach 38:11
Give a sweet savor, and a memorial of fine flour; and make a fat offering, as not being.
Sirach 38:12
Then give place to the physician, for the Lord has created him; let him not go from you, for you have need of him.
Sirach 38:13
There is a time when there is good success in their hands.
Sirach 38:14
For they will also pray to the Lord, that He would prosper that, which they give for ease and remedy to prolong life.
Sirach 38:15
He who sins before his Maker, let him fall into the hand of the physician.
Sirach 38:16
My son, let tears fall down over the dead, and begin to lament, as if you had suffered great harm yourself; and then cover his body according to the custom, and do not neglect his burial.
Sirach 38:17
Weep bitterly, and make great moan, and use lamentation, as he is worthy, and that a day or two, unless you are spoken evil of; and then comfort yourself for your heaviness.
Sirach 38:18
For of heaviness comes death, and the heaviness of the heart breaks strength.
Sirach 38:19
In affliction, sorrow also remains; and the life of the poor is the curse of the heart.
Sirach 38:20
Take no heaviness to heart; drive it away, and member the last end.
Sirach 38:21
Do not forget it, for there is no turning again; you will not do him good, but hurt yourself.
Sirach 38:22
Remember my judgment; for yours will also be so; yesterday for me, and today for you.
Sirach 38:23
When the dead are at rest, let his remembrance rest; and be comforted for him, when his spirit has departed from him.
Sirach 38:24
The wisdom of a learned man comes by opportunity of leisure; and he who has little business will become wise.
Sirach 38:25
How can he get wisdom who holds the plough, and who glories in the goad, who drives oxen, and is occupied in their labors, and whose talk is of bullocks?
Sirach 38:26
He gives his mind to make furrows; and is diligent to give the kine fodder.
Sirach 38:27
So every carpenter and workmaster, who labors night and day; and those who cut and grave seals, and are diligent to make great variety, and give themselves to counterfeit imagery, and watch to finish a work;
Sirach 38:28
The smith also sitting by the anvil, and considering the iron work, the vapor of the fire wastes his flesh, and he fights with the heat of the furnace; the noise of the hammer and the anvil is ever in his ears, and his eyes look still upon the pattern of the thing that he makes; he sets his mind to finish his work, and watches to polish it perfectly;
Sirach 38:29
So does the potter sitting at his work, and turning the wheel about with his feet, who is alway carefully set at his work, and makes all his work by number;
Sirach 38:30
He fashions the clay with his arm, and bows down his strength before his feet; he applies himself to lead it over; and he is diligent to make the furnace clean;
Sirach 38:31
All these trust their hands; and everyone is wise in his work.
Sirach 38:32
Without these, a city cannot be inhabited; and they will not dwell where they will, nor go up and down;
Sirach 38:33
They will not be sought for in public counsel, nor sit high in the congregation; they will not sit on the judges' seat, nor understand the sentence of judgment; they cannot declare justice and judgment; and they will not be found where parables are spoken.
Sirach 39:2
He will keep the sayings of the renowned men; and where subtil parables are, he will also be there.
Sirach 39:3
He will seek out the secrets of grave sentences, and be conversant in dark parables.
Sirach 39:4
He will serve among great men, and appear before princes; he will travel through strange countries; for he has tried the good and the evil among men.
Sirach 39:5
He will give his heart to resort early to the Lord who made him, and will pray before the Most High, and will open his mouth in prayer, and make supplication for his sins.
Sirach 39:6
When the great Lord wills, he will be filled with the Spirit of Understanding; he will pour out wise sentences, and give thanks to the Lord in his prayer.
Sirach 39:7
He will direct his counsel and knowledge, and in his secrets, he will meditate.
Sirach 39:8
He will show forth that which he has learned, and will glory in the law of the covenant of the Lord.
Sirach 39:9
Many will commend his understanding; and so long as the world endures, it will not be blotted out; his memorial will not depart away, and his name will live from generation to generation.
Sirach 39:10
Nations will show forth his wisdom, and the congregation will declare his praise.
Sirach 39:11
If he dies, he will leave a greater name than a thousand; and if he lives, he will increase it.
Sirach 39:12
Yet I have more to say, which I have thought upon; for I am filled as the moon at the full.
Sirach 39:13
Listen to me, you holy children, and bud forth as a rose growing by the brook of the field;
Sirach 39:14
And give a sweet savor as frankincense, and flourish as a lily, send forth a smell, and sing a song of praise, bless the Lord in all His works.
Sirach 39:15
Magnify His name, and show forth His praise with the songs of your lips, and with harps, and in praising Him you will say after this manner;
Sirach 39:16
"All the works of the Lord are exceedingly good, and whatever He commands will be accomplished in due season."
Sirach 39:17
And none may say, "What is this? Why is that?" For at a convenient time they will all be sought out; at His commandment, the waters stood as a heap, and at the words of His mouth, the receptacles of waters.
Sirach 39:18
At His commandment is done whatever pleases Him; and none can hinder, when He will save.
Sirach 39:19
The works of all flesh are before Him, and nothing can be hidden from His eyes.
Sirach 39:20
He sees from everlasting to everlasting; and there is nothing wonderful before Him.
Sirach 39:21
A man does not need to say, "What is this? Why is that?" For He has made all things for their uses.
Sirach 39:22
His blessing covered the dry land as a river, and watered it as a flood.
Sirach 39:23
As He has turned the waters into saltness; so the heathen will inherit His wrath.
Sirach 39:24
As His ways are plain to the holy; so are they stumblingblocks to the wicked.
Sirach 39:25
For the good, are good things created from the beginning; so evil things for sinners.
Sirach 39:26
The principal things for the whole use of man's life are water, fire, iron, and salt, flour of wheat, honey, milk, and the blood of the grape, and oil, and clothing.
Sirach 39:27
All these things are for good to the Godly; so to the sinners they are turned into evil.
Sirach 39:28
There are spirits that are created for vengeance, which in their fury, lay on sore strokes; in the time of destruction, they pour out their force, and appease the wrath of Him who made them.
Sirach 39:29
Fire, and hail, and famine, and death, all these were created for vengeance;
Sirach 39:30
Teeth of wild beasts, and scorpions, serpents, and the sword punishing the wicked to destruction.
Sirach 39:31
They will rejoice in His commandment, and they will be ready upon earth, when need is; and when their time has come, they will not transgress His word.
Sirach 39:32
Therefore from the beginning, I was resolved, and thought upon these things, and have left them in writing.
Sirach 39:33
All the works of the Lord are good; and He will give every needful thing in due season.
Sirach 39:34
So that a man cannot say, "This is worse than that;" For in time, they will all be well approved.
Sirach 39:35
And therefore praise the Lord with the whole heart and mouth, and bless the name of the Lord.
Sirach 40:1
Great travail is created for every man, and a heavy yoke is upon the sons of Adam, from the day that they go out of their mother's womb, until the day that they return to the mother of all things.
Sirach 40:2
Their imagination of things to come, and the day of death, [trouble] their thoughts, and [cause] fear of heart;
Sirach 40:3
From him who sits on a throne of glory, to him who is humbled in earth and ashes;
Sirach 40:4
From him who wears purple and a crown, to him who is clothed with a linen frock.
Sirach 40:5
Wrath, and envy, trouble, and unquietness, fear of death, and anger, and strife, and in the time of rest upon his bed, his night sleep, do change his knowledge.
Sirach 40:6
A little or nothing is his rest, and afterward he is in his sleep, as in a day of keeping watch, troubled in the vision of his heart, as if he had escaped out of a battle.
Sirach 40:7
When all is safe, he awakes, and marvels that the fear was nothing.
Sirach 40:8
[Such things happen] to all flesh, both man and beast, and that is sevenfold more upon sinners.
Sirach 40:9
Death, and bloodshed, strife, and sword, calamities, famine, tribulation, and the scourge;
Sirach 40:10
These things are created for the wicked, and for their sake, the flood came.
Sirach 40:11
All things that are of the earth will turn to the earth again; and that which is of the waters returns into the sea.
Sirach 40:12
All bribery and injustice will be blotted out; but true dealing will endure forever.
Sirach 40:13
The goods of the unjust will be dried up like a river, and will vanish with noise, like a great thunder in rain.
Sirach 40:14
While he opens his hand, he will rejoice; so will transgressors come to nothing.
Sirach 40:15
The children of the ungodly will not bring forth many branches; but are as unclean roots upon a hard rock.
Sirach 40:16
The weed growing upon every water and bank of a river will be pulled up before all grass.
Sirach 40:17
Bountifulness is as a most fruitful garden, and mercifulness endures forever.
Sirach 40:18
To labor, and to be content with that a man has, is a sweet life; but he who finds a treasure is above them both.
Sirach 40:19
Children and the building of a city continue a man's name; but a blameless wife is counted above them both.
Sirach 40:20
Wine and music rejoice the heart; but the love of wisdom is above them both.
Sirach 40:21
The pipe and the psaltery make sweet melody; but a pleasant tongue is above them both.
Sirach 40:22
Your eye desires favor and beauty; but more than both, corn while it is green.
Sirach 40:23
A friend and companion never meet amiss; but above both is a wife with her husband.
Sirach 40:24
Brethren and help are against time of trouble; but alms will deliver more than them both.
Sirach 40:25
Gold and silver make the foot stand sure; but counsel is esteemed above them both.
Sirach 40:26
Riches and strength lift up the heart; but the fear of the Lord is above them both; there is no want in the fear of the Lord, and it does not need to seek help.
Sirach 40:27
The fear of the Lord is a fruitful garden, and covers him above all glory.
Sirach 40:28
My son, do not lead a beggar's life; for it is better to die than to beg.
Sirach 40:29
The life of him who depends on another man's table is not to be counted for a life; for he pollutes himself with other men's meat; but a well nurtured wise man will beware thereof.
Sirach 40:30
Begging is sweet in the mouth of the shameless; but in his belly, there will burn a fire.
Sirach 41:1
O death, how bitter is the remembrance of you to a man who lives at rest in his possessions, to the man who has nothing to vex him, and who has prosperity in all things; indeed, to him who is yet able to receive meat!
Sirach 41:2
O death, acceptable is your sentence to the needy, and to him whose strength fails, that is now in the last age, and is vexed with all things, and to him who despairs, and has lost patience!
Sirach 41:3
Do not fear the sentence of death, remember those who have been before you, and who come after; for this is the sentence of the Lord over all flesh.
Sirach 41:4
And why are you against the pleasure of the Most High? There is no inquisition in the grave, whether you have lived ten, or a hundred, or a thousand years.
Sirach 41:5
The children of sinners are abominable children, and those who are conversant in the dwelling of the ungodly.
Sirach 41:6
The inheritance of sinners' children will perish, and their posterity will have a perpetual reproach.
Sirach 41:7
The children will complain of an ungodly father, because they will be reproached for his sake.
Sirach 41:8
Woe to you, ungodly men, who have forsaken the law of the Most High God! For if you increase, it will be to your destruction;
Sirach 41:9
And if you are born, you will be born to a curse; and if you die, a curse will be your portion.
Sirach 41:10
All that are of the earth will turn to earth again; so the ungodly will go from a curse to destruction.
Sirach 41:11
The mourning of men is about their bodies; but an ill name of sinners will be blotted out.
Sirach 41:12
Have regard to your name; for that will continue with you above a thousand great treasures of gold.
Sirach 41:13
A good life has but few days; but a good name endures forever.
Sirach 41:14
My children, keep discipline in peace; for wisdom that is hidden, and a treasure that is not seen, what profit is in them both?
Sirach 41:15
A man who hides his foolishness is better than a man who hides his wisdom.
Sirach 41:16
Therefore be shamefaced according to my word; for it is not good to retain all shamefacedness; neither is it altogether approved in everything.
Sirach 41:17
Be ashamed of whoredom before father and mother; and of a lie before a prince and a mighty man;
Sirach 41:18
Of an offence before a judge and ruler; of iniquity before a congregation and people; of unjust dealing before your partner and friend;
Sirach 41:19
And of theft in regard of the place where you sojourn, and in regard of the truth of God and His covenant; and to lean with your elbow upon the meat; and of scorning to give and take;
Sirach 41:20
And of silence before those who salute you; and to look upon a harlot;
Sirach 41:21
And to turn your face away from your kinsman; or to take away a portion or a gift; or to gaze upon another man's wife.
Sirach 41:22
Or to be overbusy with his maid, and not come near her bed; or of upbraiding speeches before friends; and after you have given, do not upbraid;
Sirach 41:23
Or of iterating and speaking again that which you have heard; and of revealing of secrets.
Sirach 41:24
So you will be truly shamefaced and find favor before all men.
Sirach 42:1
Of these things, do not be ashamed, and accept no person to sin thereby;
Sirach 42:2
Of the law of the Most High, and His covenant; and of judgment to justify the ungodly;
Sirach 42:3
Of reckoning with your partners and travellers; or of the gift of the heritage of friends;
Sirach 42:4
Of exactness of balance and weights; or of getting much or little;
Sirach 42:5
And of merchants' indifferent selling; of much correction of children; and to make the side of an evil servant to bleed.
Sirach 42:6
Sure keeping is good, where an evil wife is; and shut up, where many hands are.
Sirach 42:7
Deliver all things in number and weight; and put all in writing that you give out, or receive in.
Sirach 42:8
Do not be ashamed to inform the unwise and foolish, and the extreme aged who contend with those who are young; thus you will be truly learned, and approved of all living men.
Sirach 42:9
The father wakes for the daughter, when no man knows; and the care for her takes away sleep; when she is young, unless she passes away the flower of her age; and being married, unless she should be hated;
Sirach 42:10
In her virginity, unless she should be defiled and gotten with child in her father's house; and having a husband, unless she should misbehave herself; and when she is married, unless she should be barren.
Sirach 42:11
Keep a sure watch over a shameless daughter, unless she makes you a laughingstock to your enemies, and a byword in the city, and a reproach among the people, and make you ashamed before the multitude.
Sirach 42:12
Do not behold every body's beauty, and do not sit in the midst of women.
Sirach 42:13
For from garments comes a moth, and from women, wickedness.
Sirach 42:14
Better is the churlishness of a man than a courteous woman, a woman, I say, who brings shame and reproach.
Sirach 42:15

Sirach 51:4
From the choking of fire on every side, and from the midst of the fire which I did not kindle;
Sirach 51:5
From the depth of the belly of Hell, from an unclean tongue, and from lying words.
Sirach 51:6
By an accusation to the king from an unrighteous tongue, my soul drew near even to death, my life was near to Hell beneath.
Sirach 51:7
They encompassed me on every side, and there was no man to help me; I looked for the succour of men, but there was none.
Sirach 51:8
Then I thought upon Your mercy, O Lord, and upon Your acts of old, how You deliver such who wait for You, and save them out of the hands of the enemies.

I will praise Your name continually, and will sing praises with thanksgiving; and so my prayer was heard;
Sirach 51:12
For You saved me from destruction, and delivered me from the evil time; therefore I will give thanks, and praise You, and bless Your name, O Lord.

Even from the flower until the grape was ripe, my heart has delighted in her; my foot went the right way, from my youth up, I sought after her.
Sirach 51:16
I bowed down my ear a little, and received her, and got much learning.
Sirach 51:17
I profited therein, therefore I will ascribe glory to Him who gives me wisdom.
Sirach 51:18
For I purposed to do after her, and I earnestly followed that which is good; so I will not be confounded.
Sirach 51:19
My soul has wrestled with her, and in my doings, I was exact; I stretched forth my hands to the heaven above, and bewailed my ignorances of her.
Sirach 51:20
I directed my soul to her, and I found her in pureness; I have had my heart joined with her from the beginning, therefore I will not be forsaken.
Sirach 51:21
My heart was troubled in seeking her; therefore I have gotten a good possession.
Sirach 51:22
The Lord has given me a tongue for my reward, and I will praise Him therewith.
Sirach 51:23
Draw near to me, you unlearned, and dwell in the house of learning.
Sirach 51:24
Why are you slow, and what do you say to these things, seeing your souls are very thirsty?

I opened my mouth, and said, "Buy her for yourselves without money.
Sirach 51:26
Put your neck under the yoke, and let your soul receive instruction; she is hard at hand to find."
Sirach 51:27
Behold with your eyes, how I have but little labor, and have gotten much rest to me.
Sirach 51:28
Get learning with a great sum of money, and get much gold by her.
Sirach 51:29
Let your soul rejoice in His mercy, and do not be ashamed of His praise.
